Dog Sledding!

What an amazing weekend!

My daughter Micaela, who is 12, had the opportunity to experience dogsledding this past weekend, locally here at Sovereign Lake on Silver Star Mountain in Vernon.
And what an experience it was!
Working with the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club and the Nordic Ski Assist Dog Assoc., two Retreiver dogs named Balu and Jasper, were hooked up to a modifed sled, and led around the "Half Sovereign" trail. The sled was led by Randy, the dogs owner.

As the official website states..."This is probably the most unique, and exciting, adaptive x-country program of it's kind. (They) use specially trained assist dogs that answer to voice commands issued by our disabled adults who have minimal arm and leg use...It is a ride like no other with the wind in your face and the feeling of independence and exhilaration from commanding (the) dogs along the beautiful trails of Sovereign Lake, BC."
I am so proud of her...not only of who she is and what she has had to endure, but of her desire to experience something different-to step away from her comfort zone.

What an experience for such an amazing young lady!
Happy New Year to all!!!!

Yours in scouting...LE
